Tenali Raman handles a Gang of Thieves

A gang of thieves had entered the Kingdom of Vijayanagara Raman, the court jester decided to take matters into his own hands and he decided to solve the problems of getting the thieves caught.

That very night, he showed his wife a huge sack of gold, which he said that the king had presented to him.

His wife was thrilled to see so much gold. She told it to her friend.

Soon the news of Tenali Raman’s sack of gold spread all over the Kingdom and everyone knew of it.

The next night Tamali Raman was about to sleep. That was when he heard scuttling noises outside the house.

The clever Raman was sure that the thieves had heard the rumour about his money and they were around his house.

Fe turned to his wife. “Now that we have such a big sack of money, I think it would be smart not to keep it in the house.”

“Where do we keep it?” His wife was confused.

“We shall put it in a huge box and push the box inside the well of our field. No one would think of looking at it.” Raman told his wife.

The wife agreed.

So, both Tenali Raman and his wife carried a trunk outside the house and they pushed it inside the well late at night.

Then they went to sleep.

Naturally the thieves were around Raman’s house hearing after hearing about the sack of gold.

They had heard Tenali Raman's conversation with his wife.

Over the night the thieves decided that it was smart to take the gold from the trunk in the well and the thieves set about doing it.  The thieves took the water out from the well and poured it on the fields nearby all through the night.

Finally they got the trunk out of the well.

Only to find that the truck was filled with rocks and stones!

The thieves were furious and that was when they heard noises behind them.

It was Tenali Raman who had many royal guards with him.

“Thank you for watering my fields. And for this, you shall be rewarded in the prison of the kingdom.”
