The kingdom of Iravati was ruled by King Parityaganesa.
King Parityaganesa had two wives - Adhikasangama and Kavyalankara.
Adhikasangama was the daughter of Parityaganesa’s minister Prathamasangana.
Kavyalankara was the daughter of a king.
The king and his queens had no sons. So the king and his queens prayed to Goddess Ambika for sons and the king went on a fast with his two queens for sons.
One night, the Goddess was pleased and appeared in the king’s dream with two fruits. “Give these two fruits to your two queens, Parityaganesa. Then you will have two heroic sons.”
The king woke up immediately and he was stunned to see two fruits in his hands.
The king kept the fruits safe and told his two queens all about his dream.
The king gave the first wife one of the fruits and then spent the night with his first wife.
The king kept the second fruit under his pillow and intended to give it to his second wife, the second day.
However, it so happened that Adhikasangama ate the second fruit as well.
The king was disappointed with his first wife and told his second wife what had happened.
Kayvalankara was furious with this and was determined to take revenge for this.
